Signed at the bottom right." Dimensions 22.5 x 16. Claude Firmin was born on February 18, 1864, in Avignon, and died in the same city on December 8, 1944. Claude Firmin, known as "le Goy" ("the lame one" in Provençal), painted numerous frescoes for the town hall of Avignon. He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1889 to 1922; he received an honorable mention in 1902 for "The Willow Path in Provence" and "My Gilding." A member of the group of Thirteen, chaired by Clément Brun, he is regarded as a master of Provençal painting. He became a professor in 1922 and then director of the École des beaux-arts in Avignon.

He was appointed a knight of the Legion of Honor.
