LARGE PAINTING, MID 20TH CENTURY - PIERRE ROIG (1905-1963) - STILL LIFE FRUITS & PHEASANT

  

Great & Beautiful painting (oil on wood panel), dating from the mid-20th century and signed P. It is a still life with fruits and game. We can see peaches and black grapes arranged on a table covered with a tablecloth. The fruits are placed here and there to create balance in the composition, and some are even in a large copper pot.

Next to this pot, there is also a pheasant, lying on a silver platter. Finally, the last element is a glass on the left side.

We can see on the left that the wall is partially covered, and one can easily imagine the painter creating this composition on a table from his kitchen or living room. He trained at the Lyon School of Fine Arts and graduated first in his class in 1920. He completed several public commissions, collaborated on the execution of the Frouvière mosaic, entirely created the mosaic of the Saint-Pothin church in the 6th arrondissement of Lyon, porticos on two churches on the La Croix-Rousse plateau, and mosaics in a church in Saint-Etienne. Throughout his life, he was a member of the Société des Artistes Indépendants de Lyon, a member of the Lyon Society of Fine Arts, as well as a non-competitive medalist, Jury Member, Committee Member, and finally, he was awarded the Bronze Medal from the Arts-Sciences and Letters competition in Paris.
