From Auvers sur Oise to Pontoise - river, countryside, or urban motifs - passing through the Oise valley, this tireless worker conveys to his canvases a balance achieved between vision, emotion, and the vibrations of light. His painting is akin to - much to the dismay of purists - the impressionist movement, particularly reminiscent of Camille Pissaro's "style." This member of the French artists' society, Grand Prix de Rome, holder of numerous international awards: Rome, Deauville, began his career at the Grande Chaumière Academy in Paris and was exhibited in many regional, Parisian, and international salons where he accumulated accolades.
Although he did not share Van Gogh's fate, being largely unrecognized during his lifetime, the radiance of his works has nonetheless diminished; to this, of course, there is no certainty, except for his stubbornness to remain his own master, not to identify with any movement, and to remain on the sidelines. His work, indeed, resembles no other; one immediately recognizes a painting by this artist, finding in each piece that sensitivity, richness, mobility, and sobriety unique to him. For all these reasons and, of course, the dazzling beauty of his painting, we have no doubt that soon, the recognition he deserves - not to mention the market value - will establish itself among lovers of BEAUTY! Jean-Paul Ulysse passed away in 2011, at the age of 86, leaving an invaluable legacy to posterity.
