Charles Hovely – Oil on Wood Panel, Parisian Boulevard, Gilt Frame

Hello, I am selling this superb painting depicting a Parisian boulevard, probably the Champs-Élysées, in a style foreshadowing Impressionism. Painted from life, it captures the movement of cars and passers-by near a Métro entrance.

This beautiful oil painting on a wooden panel is signed “C. Hovely” in the lower right corner, for Charles Hovely, an artist active in the early 20th century. The painting dates from the 1930s.

It is set in a lovely gilded wood and stucco frame that beautifully highlights the Parisian light. Labels on the back document the painting’s history: it was purchased from a Parisian gallery in 1994 and given to friends as a gift.

Dimensions (including frame): 36 cm by 31 cm.
