We present a splendid oil painting on panel from the 1970s by the esteemed Neapolitan painter Guglielmo De Giorgio, depicting a snowfall in Milan (Italy) between the late 19th and early 20th centuries - a glimpse of the old urban landscape of Milan in winter. The street is bustling with numerous passersby, with a horse-drawn carriage at its center, while historic palaces and architecturally rich facades with snow-covered rooftops rise on either side. The street is also abundantly covered in snow: through a masterful interplay of light and shadow, the artist manages to create the three-dimensional effect of snow settling on the ground and the traces formed when it is trodden upon.De Giorgio's style reflects the influence of the Impressionist movement, with a lively and fluid touch that retains the freshness of the initial impression, combined with precise drawing and great attention to detail. In each brushstroke, De Giorgio captures the effects of light and atmosphere on the figures, houses, and street, recreating with great naturalness a scene of urban life from the early last century. He conveys the images, colors, and atmosphere of a Milanese street in the early 20th century. The painter's style is reminiscent of Antoine Blanchard and Eduard Cortes. Like these two artists, a significant part of Guglielmo De Giorgio's output is dedicated to views of the city of Paris, as well as those of Milan and Naples.
