This is an oil on wood panel depicting a charming pastoral and romantic scene (figures in period costume on a country path, haystacks or a herd in the distance, and a waterway). The style is close to the Barbizon School. The work is signed at the lower right with the initials “A.

A superb and imposing antique Rococo/Baroque-style gilded stucco frame with rocailles and scroll motifs. The contrast between the size of the frame and the miniature is highly sought after and very decorative. The original rough wood panel is still visible on the back of the frame.

In very good overall condition for its age. Original patina, and the varnish has aged beautifully. A few light signs of age on the frame add to its charm and authenticity. Ideal for a charming decor, a cabinet of curiosities, a chic country-house style interior, or for a collector of antique paintings.
