During the First World War, he was a musician-brancardier and participated in the Battle of Verdun of 1916. He also makes several portraits of his comrade soldiers (some of whom are for sale). He is known for his portraits, he has represented much of his family in his works as well as theatre people. He's a member of the winter salon. Some of his compositions borrow from Chardin.
