PIERRE CÉLESTIN BILLET - 1836 - 1922 - YOUNG SAILOR GAZING AT THE OCEAN. Pierre Célestin Billet (1836 - 1922): young sailor gazing at the ocean. Pierre Célestin Billet, born in northern France on November 2, 1836, was the son of an industrialist established in the area.
He gave up this activity to become a student of painters. From 1868 onward, he exhibited genre scenes. He received a third-class medal in 1873 and a second-class medal in 1874. He painted rural scenes in the style of Jules Breton. After 1900, his art turned toward...Pierre Billet trained students in painting, including his daughter. He was acquainted with the Breton family, the Demon-Breton couple, and certain painters of the... Fisherman's Daughter, oil on canvas.
