Charming painting (oil on wood panel), dating from the late 19th or early 20th century and signed G. It depicts a seaside landscape, as indicated on the back, on the Neapolitan coast ("Napolitaine" on the label), in Italy. Several boats are visible moored in the scene, which is animated by multiple characters. On the right, a couple is walking away from the beach, and in the center, four women are chatting. One of them is holding a tool called a "gaffe", which is a metal rod with two curved hooks used to retrieve wicker baskets seen in the lower right, as well as ropes, mooring buoys, etc.
The work is signed, but despite brief research, I have not been able to find information about this artist. It seems that this painter is a forgotten artist. This is surprising because his work has a beautiful aura, true charm, and is technically very well done, leaving no doubt that he was a skilled painter. Dimensions: - 26 cm / 16 cm.
42 cm / 32 cm (frame). Please note: the painting is in its original condition but is in good condition!
There are small scratches on the frame, and a light cleaning of the panel may be needed to fully enjoy it. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
