Louis Letsch, born in 1856 in Austria and died in 1940 in Strasbourg, was known for creating designs for fabric and wallpaper patterns. He acquired great skill in painting flowers and was called the "master of flowers". But it is in another "field" that the painter takes us! During the 1914 War, specifically in the town of Bourtzwiller near Mulhouse, he depicted the Tile Factory set on fire by German soldiers.

In the night of August 14 to 15, 1914, two German units mistakenly fired at each other. Refusing to acknowledge their mistakes, the military accused the residents of causing the shooting. Six civilians were executed as an example. Louis Letsch was probably affected by this event as he painted it on a panel in 1916.

Dimensions: 39/50 cm, in good condition.
