He was nurtured by a solid education at the Hans Hofmann art school and by significant encounters, for example, in Paris in 1929, where he became friends with the poet Jean-Paul de Dadelsen, an Alsatian like him, whose portrait he painted. Through travels in Europe and a significant activity in writing and critical reflection, Robert Breitwieser left behind a rich and diverse body of work. He is the grandfather of Bruno Breitwieser, who is also an artist. Robert Breitwieser is considered one of the best expressions of the Alsatian school.
