Orientalist Painting-1908-soldier French Guarding A Door In North Africa

Orientalist painting (oil on wooden panel), dating from 1908 and signed. This is a scene taking place outdoors at the edge of a building protected by a large wall. There is an imposing wooden door in front of which is a colonial soldier of the French army. He holds in his hand a document that seems to be a pass. In front of him, there is a man on horseback, wearing large white clothes and probably waiting for the soldier's decision.

This place could be an army barracks but there is an inscription on the back where it is inscribed "tobacco-manufacture of the French state" suggesting that this building was therefore a tobacco factory. Is the work written rollier? On the lower left side. I did not find any information about this artist but it is not to be excluded that he was sent to the Maghreb as a military and that the latter painted a moment of life in his daily life. Dimensions: - 19.5 cm / 14 cm.
