Born in Aubenas in 1878, Isabelle Verny, the daughter of a prominent bourgeois family from Ardèche, had plenty of time to devote herself to her artistic inclinations.

She played Chopin almost constantly and further developed her painting skills. From her marriage in 1900 to infantry colonel Mège, she had three children, one of whom, her son Henri Mège, became a famous painter.

Living in Paris until 1914, she had time to exhibit her works there on many occasions, notably at the Salon des Humoristes. Her favorite subjects were people, whom she depicted with lively and distinctive features. With the outbreak of the First World War, she settled in Chambéry, where she quickly resumed her artistic activities.

She painted many local people and regularly invited elderly people so she could portray them more accurately on canvas. She created typical scenes such as card games. The artist also took the time to paint a few landscapes, even though this was not her preferred subject.

Following the death of her husband in 1936, she left Savoy for good and returned to Ardèche, her native land.
