Unsigned 19th-century French Barbizon School oil on canvas, “Shepherdess in the Woods,” in need of restoration.

A beautiful framed, unsigned oil on canvas depicting a wooded landscape beside a river, with a shepherdess and an animal. Painted by an artist with a skilled command of their craft.

Gilded wood frame with stucco ornamentation and an Art Nouveau floral design, with some losses at the corners.

There is a tear at the middle right and another very fine tear beneath the stretcher in the centre. A signature is visible on the frame but is difficult to decipher: C Miérol / C Mürol.



Frame: 34 x 45 cm.
Cardboard: 24 x 35 cm.
