Counter-signed and titled on the back by the artist: KENT.... A beautiful work by the animal painter André Marchand depicting a chestnut horse. The details of the horse's body, the play of light and shadow are perfectly mastered. A student of painters Léon Bonnat, Edouard Detaille, and Simon Toudouze, André Marchand is a lithographer and an animal painter.

He has been a member of the Salon des artistes français since 1898. He received several awards during his participations, notably a medal in 1904 and 1920. André Marchand spends the summer at the Lizelier mill in Iteuil in the Vienne to paint the countryside.

His favorite subjects are portraits of horses. He regularly attends horse races in Paris to admire and paint exceptional horses. 32.5 x 41 cm without frame and 46 x 54 cm with its modern wooden frame. A slight defect on the panel, without consequence, is to be noted at the top right.
