For sale: this very attractive painting depicting a cypress by Yvonne Vonnot-Viollet. Framed and signed at the lower right.
Dimensions: Frame 57 x 48 cm - Panel: 46 x 38 cm. Best known as a landscape painter, Yvonne “Vonnot” Viollet (Vonnot being a diminutive of Yvonne) was born in France (Le Havre) in 1883 and died in Schaerbeek in 1936.
She was the illegitimate granddaughter of the brother of the famous architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. She is said to have served as a model for Privat Livemont for the sgraffitos on the façades of 17 rue Vogler in Schaerbeek and 79 avenue Bel-Air in Uccle. She also lived in the studio at 17 rue Vogler after the death of painter Alfred Ruytinx (Privat Livemont’s nephew), until her death in 1936. Yvonne Vonnot Viollet served several times as a model for painter Oswald Poreau, whose student she was before becoming his companion.
