I propose a work with rare and astonishing colors. It consists of two vertical wooden panels that belonged to a bourgeois house from the 19th century and were used to decorate two doors. These two separate panels have been combined into a single panel to form a diptych (very rare in the 19th century) for a transformed visual presentation in landscape format.
These two oil paintings on wood depict a fishing departure and return on the Breton coast. This subject has often inspired many painters over the past two centuries, but more rarely in a nocturnal atmosphere. Two very distinct halves are represented: a calm sea and a sky that is turning stormy, thus creating a paradoxical ambiance. The whole piece has a great depth that is almost enchanting and demands attention. When one takes the time to contemplate this painting, a feeling of immersion gradually appears and inspires respect for sailors.
Dimensions of the work with its framing strips: length 80 cm x height 76 cm. These two authentic oil paintings on wood are in perfect condition for old works. They have been thoroughly cleaned, stripped of their varnish by a professional, and then a satin anti-UV varnish has been applied. The entire piece has become a wooden diptych in the style of Renaissance and Baroque diptychs.
The choice of rounded frame strips enhances the atypical aspect of this work. These two paintings are signed by a talented painter to be discovered. On the back of the painting, three wires connected together ensure the robustness of the frame. The panel hung on the wall will remain vertical and not tilted, thanks to two wedges glued to the back of the painting at the bottom.
