Jean-Paul Ulysse 1925 - 2011 Prix de Rome - Seaside at Etretat Oil on canvas 2000s. Provenance: Artist's studio fund. Expertise by Maître Martinot in Cergy (95). Signed at the bottom left.

From Auvers sur Oise to Pontoise - river, countryside, or urban motifs - passing through the Oise Valley, this tireless worker conveys to his canvases a balance achieved between vision, emotion, and the vibrations of light. His painting is akin to - much to the chagrin of purists - the Impressionist movement and notably to the "touch" of Camille Pissaro. This member of the French artists' society, Grand Prix de Rome, graduate of major international awards: Rome, Deauville, frequented the Grande Chaumière academy in Paris in his early days and was exhibited in numerous regional, Parisian, and international salons where he accumulated awards.

While he did not experience the fate of Van Gogh, who was overlooked during his lifetime, the radiance of his works has nonetheless faded; to this, of course, there is no certainty, except for his stubbornness to remain his own master, to not identify with any movement, to stay on the margins. His work, indeed, resembles no other; one immediately recognizes a painting by this artist, finding in each work that sensitivity, richness, mobility, and sobriety unique to him. For all these reasons and, of course, the dazzling beauty of his painting, we have no doubt that soon, the recognition he deserves - let’s not speak of market value - will impose itself among lovers of BEAUTY! Jean-Paul Ulysse passed away in 2011, at the age of 86, leaving an invaluable legacy for posterity.
