Impressionist painting by Jean-Paul Ulysse, Rome Prize, Seaside at Étretat
Jean-Paul Ulysse 1925 - 2011 Prix de Rome - Seaside at Etretat Oil on canvas 2000s. Provenance: Artist's studio fund. Expertise by Maître Martinot in Cergy (95). Signed at the bottom left. From Auvers-sur-Oise to Pontoise - river motifs, rural or urban - passing through the Oise valley, this tireless worker imparts to his canvases a balance achieved between vision, emotion, and the vibrations of light. His painting is thus akin - much to the chagrin of purists - to the Impressionist movement, notably reminiscent of Camille Pissarro's "style." This member of the French artists' society, Grand Prix de Rome, and holder of prestigious international awards: Rome, Deauville, began his career at the Grande Chaumière Academy in Paris and was exhibited in numerous regional, Parisian, and international salons where he accumulated awards. While he did not experience the fate of Van Gogh, who was overlooked during his lifetime, the brilliance of his works has nevertheless faded; there is, of course, no certainty in this, except for his stubbornness to remain his own master, to not identify with any movement, to stay on the fringes. His work, indeed, resembles no other; one immediately recognizes a painting by this artist, finding in each work that sensitivity, richness, mobility, and sobriety unique to him. For all these reasons, and of course, the dazzling beauty of his painting, we have no doubt that soon, the recognition he deserves - let’s not speak of value - will impose itself among lovers of the BEAUTIFUL! Jean-Paul Ulysse passed away in 2011 at the age of 86, leaving an invaluable legacy for posterity.
