Jean-Paul Ulysse 1925 - 2011 Prix de Rome - Seaside at Etretat Oil on canvas 2000s. Provenance: Artist's studio fund. Expertise by Maître Martinot in Cergy (95).

Signed at the bottom left. From Auvers-sur-Oise to Pontoise - river, countryside, or urban motifs - through the Oise valley, this tireless worker conveys to his canvases a balance achieved between vision, emotion, and the vibrations of light. His painting is thus akin - much to the chagrin of purists - to the Impressionist movement and notably to the "style" of Camille Pissarro. This member of the French artists, Grand Prix de Rome, graduate of major international awards: Rome, Deauville, frequented at the beginning the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris and was exhibited in numerous regional, Parisian, and international salons where he accumulated awards.

Although he did not share the fate of Van Gogh, who was overlooked during his lifetime, the radiance of his works has somewhat faded; Of course, there is no certainty about this, except for his stubbornness to remain his own master, to not identify with any movement, to remain on the margins. His work, indeed, resembles no other; one immediately recognizes a painting by this artist, finding in each work this sensitivity, this richness, this mobility, this sobriety unique to him. For all these reasons and, of course, the resplendent beauty of his painting, we have no doubt that soon, the recognition he deserves - not to mention value - will impose itself among connoisseurs of BEAUTY! Jean-Paul Ulysse passed away in 2011, at the age of 86, leaving an invaluable legacy to posterity.
