Impressionist painting (oil on wood panel) dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. It depicts a scene unfolding in vineyards.
We see a man, sitting on a stone wall and contemplating the surrounding landscape. In front of him there are vines and further away mountains.
This man wears a blue shirt, a straw hat and has a basket on his back. He is therefore a winemaker and has a basket on his back for the harvest. The relief of the landscape and the character's Provençal hat indicate that the scene most likely takes place in the Rhône Valley, although it is difficult to know if the location represented is more towards the Drôme/Ardèche or Vaucluse. The work is not signed and attribution will be difficult to obtain. This does not detract from the quality of the work and especially the poetic aspect it conveys.
Dimensions: - 45 cm / 30 cm. 64 cm / 47 cm (frame). Please note: as visible in the photos, I would like to point out several wear marks here and there, a slightly yellowed varnish on the edges of the painting and a small tear on the frame. None of this affects the reading of the work and can be easily restored by a professional. I am available if you have any questions. I'm able to understand English and to be understood.
