Eugene deshayes was born in 1862. As a child, he is often ill and bedridden. He then asked for a slate, a pencil and drawing from morning to evening. In the high school of Alger, he distinguished himself in drawing class. Still very young, he loses his parents and is raised by his brother, then young medecine at the dourera hospital. He joined the school of fine arts of alger then led by emile-charles labbé, landscape painter of the school of barbizon. He finally obtained a scholarship to integrate the fine betting arts, in 1882. He is trained in the workshop of the gérôme painter, regularly frequents the wash where he makes copies.

In direct contact with nature, he paints versailles, the heaping park and goes so far as to sell his "clamart snow landscape" to the famous Durand-Ruel art dealer. Upon his return to Alger in 1890, the press immediately favoured him. He exhibited at the Dru Gallery, paintings from the Paris region and the surroundings of Alger.

He also participates every year in the show of French artists in Paris. In love with nature, games of light, he studied Mediterranean fauna and flora. It even happens to paint from a workshop boat, the sea and its variations at all hours of the day.

He likes the effervescent life of ports, ships, ships with blades. Travelling through southern Algeria, it also follows caravans, within the vast Saharan expanses. He planted his easel sounds all over the region: ouargla, biskra, batna, timgad.. and also traveled the maroc, south oran, tunisia... In 1900, he painted one of the fourteen decorative panels of the pavilion of the Algeria at the universal exhibition.

Salles, cataud, muller, noailly, sintès, antony, reynaud and his friend bertrand share the others. He received numerous awards: the Knight's Cross of the Legion of Honour in 1935, a gold medal for his participation in the international exhibition in 1937. It was extinguished in 1939.
