19th-century French school, after Jean-Louis Ernest MEISSONIER (Lyon, 1815 - Paris, 1891). The Horseman’s Rest at Tourne-Bride in the Forest of Saint-Germain.

Monogrammed “EM” lower left, signed “EMeissonier” lower right, inscriptions on the reverse, and a crowned “LN” stamp. 23.8 x 18.6 cm.

Carved and gilded wooden frame with rocaille-style ornamentation. Dimensions including frame: 30 x 24.2 cm. Note: this is a composition based on the painting titled At Tourne-Bride in the Forest of Saint-Germain, with numerous variations; it is of similar dimensions and is part of the collections of the Musée d’Orsay (RF 1856).
