Born in cape town (South Africa) in 1903, Edward Bainbridge Copnall moved to Horsham in the west sussex, england.

If he mainly painted portraits, he is best known for his architectural sculptures, monumental and decorative featuring allegorical, and religious animal. He was President of the Royal Society of sculptors from 1961 to 1966. He wrote a manual sculptor, published in 1971. His son is the artist John Bainbridge Copnall.
