Born in Reims in 1902, Edmond Chauvet was the son of decorative painter Prosper Georges Chauvet. He studied under François Flameng and Lucien Simon, a renowned painter of Brittany. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, notably in 1929.
He painted landscapes, still lifes, and scenes from his home region and his travels. His works are held in the museum collections of Reims, his birthplace, where he died in 1969 and where a street now bears his name.
In the foreground, a granite house stands beside a path leading down to the water.
In the centre, fishing boats are moored along the quays, overlooked by the town’s pale façades. To the right, small boats lie at anchor, while two sailboats can be seen farther out in the bay beneath a cloudy sky.
Beautiful paint texture in the façades and sky, with a luminous palette of blues, ochres, and greys.
