Charming & Amazing painting (oil on wood panel), dating from the 19th century and unsigned. It depicts an imposing caravan in black, red, and yellow, with wooden wheels and pulled by four horses.
Judging by the size of the horses, their load must have been immense. Many people are in the carriage. The first is the coachman who is sitting outside, holding the reins, and behind him are some luggage. The caravan is two stories high and you can see the travelers' busts at the windows.
Two of them have top hats, leaving no doubt that the passengers come from a bourgeois background. Reading the inscriptions, you can see: "Dispatch service of Amiens, Arras, Lille". This caravan was in a way the ancestor of means of transportation such as trains or taxis, crossing the region of Hauts-de-France, starting in the department of Somme, then Pas-de-Calais, to finish its journey in the North. The work is not signed but that objectively doesn't matter.
The artwork is charming with its naive aesthetic and also has a documentary value in a certain sense. Dimensions: - 34.5 cm / 26.5 cm.
39 cm / 31 cm (frame). Please note: the painting is in its original condition but is in good shape! I would like to point out slight wear in some places on the frame but nothing that affects the quality and viewing of the artwork. I am available if you have any questions.
