Dimensions of the work without frame. Width 55 cm Height 46 cm. Born in the Gard, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Valenciennes and then continued his training in Paris. He taught drawing from 1942 at Lycée Wallon and took part in creating the “fine arts” section of the University of Valenciennes in 1970. His work, influenced by the artistic movements of the 1930s, combines modernism with surrealist touches.

He is especially appreciated for his poetic landscapes of northern France, with restrained and sensitive tones. Charles Bétrémieux notably exhibited at the Durand-Ruel gallery in 1953 as well as at the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris.
