Belgian painter Guy Cambier was fascinated by Rembrandt after visiting a retrospective of his work at the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels. At the age of nineteen, he had his first exhibition in Belgian Art, after which his work was noticed. In 1950, the painter left his native Belgium to settle on the French Riviera. This was a time of recognition for him.

Cambier won several awards: the Young Mediterranean Painting Prize in Nice (1956), and participated in the Biennale of Menton (1958). He had regular exhibitions in Nice, Cannes, Paris, Lyon, Geneva, and Zurich.

His works were acquired by the French State and several American collections in New York and San Francisco. He painted portraits of Gérard Philipe, Princess Grace of Monaco, Winston Churchill, Ingrid Bergman, and his friend Stéphane Grappelli.

Although he admired the painters of the Northern School, he did not simply copy their work. Cambier's paintings are luminous, expressive, with a certain materiality in the paint.

A very beautiful composition, reminiscent of Rembrandt, a great painter.
