This is a copy of a painting by Adrien Marie entitled "A Beginning." This painting is signed BOUDIN.

It depicts a character in the Flemish style of the 16th century introducing a child sitting on his lap to a little beer for the first time. Adrien Marie, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine on October 20, 1848, and died in Cadiz on April 29, 1891, was a French engraver, illustrator, painter, and traveler. He was a student of Bayard, Camino, and Pils.

He participated in the Paris Salon from 1866 to 1881, and then in the Salon des Artistes Français, winning a bronze medal in 1889 at the Universal Exhibition. Good condition, crackled effect, some minor rubbing (see photos), signed at the bottom left.

In a golden wood frame, with a few small losses. Visible dimension: 31.5 x 21 cm (12 1/2" x 8 1/4").

Frame dimension: 37 x 26 cm (14 1/2" x 10 1/4"). Look at my other items like this one. Expect to find signs of normal use and proportional wear, especially for antiques.
