Two large antique paintings in oil on wood, depicting Asian landscapes with mountains and pagodas. These pieces bring an exotic and poetic atmosphere to any interior.
They are more likely “idealized Japanese landscapes” (Japanese scenic landscapes), very popular between 1900 and 1935.
Specialists and collectors encounter very similar examples, which they place between the end of the Meiji era and the beginning of the Showa era, roughly from 1890 to 1940.
Condition satisfactory, see photos: paint chips, a few areas of raised material, worn frames, small cracks.
The stretcher system on the back, the panel construction, and the frames are truly consistent with Japanese productions intended for export from the early 20th century.
